You should take a look at NetOptimist, it's coming along quite nicely as an
open-source equivalent to Net+. Sure it's in an infancy stage right now,
but AFAIK there's only one developer working on it. Perhaps if the author
would allow a bit of contribution it could be up to par with Net+ by R1.
Mozilla is exactly what the name describes: a big ferocious beast of a
browser. Sure, it renders pages ok and handles JavaScript/CSS ... but it
doesn't carry the BeOS je ne sais quoi we're all used to. I frankly would
rather see some development of a native web browser than to see us just
write off that task and include the beast.
Then there's KHTML ... IMO, the best HTML rendering engine outside of
Internet Explorer itself. Procton was working on a port, but the last I
heard from him there were some technical difficulties I won't get into here.
