In many types of academic research and publication it is a serious requirement to have data to back the presentation of ideas and information. Awareness of statistical sources is a very important part of the tool kit a researcher brings to research and study that require demographic and quatitative proof of assertion. Here are some internet resources that will assist those doing studies that include the need to harvest statistical data. First of all, since the use of statistics involves mathematics skills and techniques in many applications, this source of web links related to mathematics may be useful: Math <http://www.edu-cyberpg.com/Teachers/dbmath.html> Here are some links that provide web and other statistics resource lists. -------------------- FedStats Home Page <http://www.fedstats.gov/> Topic links - A to Z - Direct access to statistical data on topics of your choice. MapStats - Statistical profiles of States, counties, Congressional Districts, and Federal judicial districts. State Statistical Resources [Drop Down Menu Listing Each of the States] Statistics by geography from U.S. agencies -- International comparisons, national, State, county, and local. Statistical reference shelf - Published collections of statistics available online including the Statistical Abstract of the United States. Search across agency websites. Agencies listed alphabetically with descriptions of the statistics they provide and links to their websites, contact information, and key statistics. Agencies by subject - Select a subject: Agriculture Crime Demographics Economic Education Energy Environment Health Income Labor National Accounts Natural Resources Safety Transportation Press releases - The latest news and announcements from individual agencies. Kids' pages on agency websites. Data access tools - Selected agency online databases. ******************************************************** FREE CLIP ART Do your Students, Teachers, Administrators, Tech Eds need to know where to go for great online resources for the arts? Serious researchers looking for statistical coverage of a topic should also consult three print indexes to statistical publications that are produced by Congressional Information Service, a subsidiary of Lexis-Nexis. These print indexes are available at numerous major public and academic libraries. They are American Statistics Index that covers statistical sources from the United States federal government, Statistics Reference Index that covers state, organization, trade press and other sources of statistical published materials and finally International Statistics Index. One word of caution, extensive ongoing work with statistical sources may have a negative impact on ones health as ones days will be numbered.
