Kaspersky labs has additional servers for autoupdating.  The program
defaults to use one server but can be altered to check a variety of 
servers. Select Kaspersky updater, select update via the internet to 
open the drop down box(es) select "location"  Check the box labeled 
"Use alternate locations from the list"  select next and next to update.  
This option should stay selected after the first time.  This helps 
Kaspersky lighten the load for updates and helps you obtain updates 
easier.

CharView by BB is a VB6 application which allows easy viewing of your system
fonts. This is very handy for those who wish to use the graphics in Dingbats
and Wingding type fonts. Those type of graphics allow you to insert "speech
bubbles", and the like, into documents, pictures or brochures.

To insert Wingding style graphics into a picture, just use your favourite
paint program and then add text. By pressing the right key at the right time
you will add the right graphic. 

The problem is to know which key makes the picture you want !

CharView by BB lets you view font characters easily. Select the font you
want to view then highlight the character you want. The equivalent key name
is displayed in a text box. The ASCII code is also shown to allow
duplication by pressing ALT plus the number. 

The program is self explanatory, it is just a simple font viewer requiring
only the standard VB6 run time libraries.

This program is a FREE full working version. There are NO registry changes
or secret files made. CharView by BB contains no Spyware or AdWare, and is
totally non-intrusive.

Add Time and Date to Notepad
Need to add the time and date to your Notepad file?

Mike's Friday Tip ~ What is the Desktop

One of the basic computer terms you may run across is the "Desktop".

The 'desktop' is the window which Windows first opens after booting up
(starting up).

The screen will display common Windows features/programs.
In most cases you will have;
Internet Explorer
Outlook Express
My Computer
My Briefcase
Network Neighbourhood
and Recycle Bin.

Often on a new computer there will be numerous icons to 'bonus' programs
that the computers manufacturer has bundled with it.
AOL, Compuserve, MS Works, Quicken, etc.
 
You may also have several shortcuts to different programs which you may have
installed.
You can often recognize shortcuts by the white box with an arrow in it.

Some of the Windows programs on the desktop can be removed, others require
editing the registry or by using special programs called Tweaks.
