In defence of Google: the previous system was actually pretty insecure.
Facebook does seem to be an answer -- though I have deliberately avoided it
till now --
for photos only, but surely flickr would be better for that?
(*NB* facebook is now making everything not marked *private* available to
search engines)
(I prefer this email list, also setting up a Google account to be able to
post to
the current blog is actually less hassle than joining Facebook)
