There were a bunch of birds there... and well away from the
crowd. The were "targets" for those testing spotting scopes and
binoculars.. a stand for the people was set up, across the square. I
wanted "bird portraits", as you call your shots of captive
birds. But with what I had, the birds were quite far away. Both
shots are heavily cropped. Still, they work, at least for the net...
and probably a decent 4x6" print. Nothing more.
The biggest problem was to get a shot [a] through the crowd, and [b]
with just trees in the background, so as to lose the "citified"
look. Cabling and structural steel were just about everywhere.
Given a 3 to 4 minute window of time, the gear on hand and the lousy
location, I'm pretty happy with them.
In all, Photokina was a fun experience, and we hope to go back in
2008 and (with luck) see the mythical R10 introduced.
