Hi. First post here - after lurking for ages. Am/was contemplating an R8 and
on reading the film scratching issue, had two potential fix ideas I decided
to suggest. Again, I don't own (as yet) and R8/9 but this is based upon my
understanding of the problem on earlier bodies:
1. www.leevalley.com (and likely many woodworking sites) sell off cuts of
ultra high molecular weight plastic (UHMW polyethylene) for use in jigs, as
bearing material. It is VERY dense, machines like metal, is self-lubricating
and NOTHING will adhere to it and wears like . Idea #1 is to have a
machinist replicate the offending plastic strip inside the R8/9 out of this
material
2. They also sell a ultra-low friction 5 mil self-adhesive tape (Part #
25U04.01), seemingly of the same material that is used on saw fences, etc.
Idea #2 is to put this tape over the offending plastic strip - a high tech
cellophane alternative with better glide properties.
One question I did have. Does the list have a buy/sell policy? I have a 90mm
Summicron Apo R ROM I was about to list on eBay which I thought of listing
here, but don't want to violate any protocol.
Thanks and keep up the excellent work.
Cheers
R
