Ed and Neil:

That is not entirely true... the Canon 40D (rumoured to be coming
this September) is supposed to have "Live View" as well.

Because of the ongoing litany of troubles with my DMR, I am looking
for a backup camera.

My long gone Canon 20D had a very nice finder, but no spot metering
and just 8 mp... though for most, 8mp is just fine. (For wildlife
work, where, even with long glass, you often need to crop, 10mp is a
nice luxury.) However, 10mp, spot metering and "live view" are,
supposedly, all featured in the coming 40D. If I go Canon (and I'm
leaning that way), I'll wait for the 40D.

The coming OLY 510 will most likely have a finder like the 500 ...
which I find visually small and distant. OTOH, it will offer in
camera image stabilization, which would be a godsend to the Telyt
400's and 560's! And it will also be a 10+ mpixel camera. Despite
what I see as "pitzy" finders, the OLY's (as well as their big
brothers from PanaLeica and Leica) are capable of delivering some
very nice photos! Again, for wildlife work, the 2x FOV is great...
but a killer for those who want to use w/a Leica glass.

Adapters for R glass are available for both, although at this stage
only the Canon has adapters which allow focus confirmation.

I very much like the Nikon D200 and the Pentax K10d. Both are 10+
mp, but neither will accept R glass. :-(
