Folks -
Went out on Sunday for a 90 minute birding hit & run. Sneaked up on a
couple of nice birdies, shot their little likenesses. Went home to
view the results and It seems that I'm running into gamut issues with
my setup (400 Telyt, Canon 20D, ProPhoto colorspace, raw files
converted with Photoshop CS, histograms look good.) My memory tells me
that I can't seem to get even close to the severely striking coloration
of the Scarlet Tanager; the filtered light on the Magnolia Warbler is
better, but still not where I feel what I felt through the finder.
Which brings me to another issue... I can barely focus with the stock
screen in the 20D (all of you DMR owners feel free to gloat away.) Has
anyone used any of the aftermarket screens on the 20D with the 400
Telyt??
Y'know... I almost get the feeling that if I had hung one of my SL's
with 200 speed slide film on the back of the lens I might be happier...
anyway, here's my best reduction into sRGB JPEG world of some
representative shots:

Maybe later I'll work up a crop of the Tanager; the eyeball is rather
nicely rendered in a way that disappears in this version...
