Hi,
I just noticed that there has been a reorganization of the forums in
haiku-os.org, and I have a few questions/comments.
# What happened to all the content of the forums that were dropped?
There may have been useful information there, so it would be good if it
were made available as a form of knowledge base archive somewhere.
# I have noticed that forums for languages other than English have been
added. I think you are going to have problems (in the form of garbled
text) with any language that uses an encoding other than existing
iso-8859-1; for example, it is possible to post in Japanese, but the
titles become garbled (and therefore unintelligible). I suspect the same
would happen with Chinese.
While you may be able to solve this particular issue by changing the
encoding to utf-8, there is still the problem that the interface is in
English, making it a bit intimidating for many non-English speakers.
I am not being negative, and I am 100% sure the intention was good. But
it would have been better if people with knowledge in those languages
were consulted before the implementation, to make sure that the forums
are accessible enough for everyone regardless of the language they use.
A little teamwork goes a long way. ;-)
Koki
