Subject: [gps-talkusers] GPS receiver not detected message inside main
program
Hello everyone,
I had a very interesting experience this weekend and after half and
hour trying to get my GPS receiver to work I finally figured out the
problem.
Here is the symptoms I was experiencing (note this is with Keysoft
7.2 build 47.)
I had my GPS receiver (an I-Trek) bluetooth gps receiver. It was
Paired and Active.
I would go into the GPS menu and it did not say anything about not
being able to connect, so I went into the GPS program and got the
"Bluetooth receiver not detected, switch to virtual" message. Very
strange because usually you will get that "Bluetooth not detected"
message at the GPS menu prompt.
So I tried deactivating active sync, re-activating it, and tried
again with the exact same results. Then I tried un-pairing and
repairing and activating active sync, again had the same results
works in GPS menu but in the program "no gps detected". Then tried a
normal reset with the same results, and then a 456 reset and again
with the same results.
A this point and after half an hour I am getting really frustrated
why can't I get a GPS fix?
Then it hit me, awh maybe I need to turn off and back on my GPS
receiver. Folks I kid you not that was ALL I had to do, I didn't
touch a single setting I just went to the main menu after it failed
again for the umptheenth time and turned off the GPS receiver turned
it back on went into the program and it said "GPS detected, acquired
position, 6 satellites"
I couldn't believe it. I guess the GPS receiver just got into a
weird state where it would first start working and then stop sending
GPS information, this is why it would work in the menu but then fail
when going into the GPS main program.
So the moral of this store is, if the Connectivity menu says your gps
receiver is paired and active try turning off your receiver and back
on then go into the GPS program, it should save you time and a ton of
headaches as I have found out the hard way (Smile)
So keep that trick in your hat the next time you can't get a GPS
connection! Have a great day! Charles.
