Hay, Mike!
A story!
There is a song everyone in Ireland knows called "holy Ground."
Now we were in Ireland in 1965 and no matter whether we went to a tiny B&B
or the grandest hotels everywhere in the pub everyone sang this song.
So mind ye, we were lavishly entertained when we went back to Dublin by a
Doctor friend and my Mother said in the course of the meal "Why doesn't the
Irish Government make "holy ground" the National Anthem because everyone
knows it?"
Well our hosts smiled and nodded and said nothing.
So, P. S. We got back to the united States and I was singing folk music at
the time and we bought a recording and one of the tracks was "Holy Ground."
When my Mother read the history she shrieked like a banchy.
"The Holy Ground" is a cat house in Cork City. So, when you go into a pub
ask whomever is doing the singing to sing it for you.
I'm planning on coming to csun next year and if you haven't heard it by
then, we will find a guitar and I'll personally sing it for you, its a riot.
I know this is off-topic and the powers that be may kick me off this list
but enjoy Ireland. my family, at least Mother's family came from Cork and
unfortunately we didn't get to see too much of the city itself but next time
you take a group over there, let us in the east know and I will be sure to
sign up.
Anyway Slaint Na Got.

Mary Ellen Earls
Remember! Today is the Tomorrow you thought about yesterday.
