Hi Carol,
I did some looking for you and it looks like in the UK there POIs we
have don't include police stations. The POIs you saw in the sports
are infact correct they are not police stations. For example.
Metropolitan Police Imber Court Sports Club, Ember Lane, Elmbridge,
+442083981267
I also don't have any POIs in the Veterinarian category for the UK.
The POI categories are just general categories and doesn't mean to
imply that all of these categories exist in all maps.
Here are a list of the UK categories that at least have some POIs in
them. This list isn't inclusive but will give you a pretty good idea
of the POIs that are available in the UK., now keep in mind there are
a ton of sub categories for these categories as well in the UK. For
example in the Vehicle Service/Repair there are 173 active sub
categories in the UK, and Restaurant for example has 41 active sub categories.
Vehicle Service/Repair
Shop
Restaurant
Government Establishment
Medical Service
Entertainment
Accommodation
Shop
Thematic Sport
Tourist Attraction
Ground Transportation
I hope this helps explain things. Now there are other categories in
some of the other bpi files the ones from the maps themselves and
some of those categories are Schools, Hospitals, City Centers etc.
Enjoy.
Charles.

Hi,
Speaking of POIS, we have all noted how these have increased in
number in the UK, even if there may be some duplicates . . ..
This brings me on to a question relating to POIS.
Steve Bingham drew to my attention that he appeared unable to find
any police stations nearby in our area. Well, I went for a 60 mile
search, looking under the Police Stations category, and sure enough
I found none. Again, although, looking generally at all POIS for the
word Police did throw up some POIS, they appeared to be sports clubs
etc and not stations. Taking this a step further, I looked in the
Veterinarian category, wondering if I may find what we would call
veterinary practitioners (practices, or just plain VETS) over
here. Again, the category appeared to be empty and, once more, when
searching for a POI in all categories with the word VET, I found a number.
Please could Sendero explain these things. Are these categories
given by the map provider, or do you at Sendero just make
categories, giving another way to look up what is required?
In either case, it seems that these categories have a good way to go
yet before they're really useful. Certainly, so far I've found it
much better and not too time consuming to search all POIS with a
given word for the best results.

Subject: [gps-talkusers] over 15 million points of interest
One of the most significant aspects of any GPS program is the data
content. Sendero is constantly working to increase the data content
as evidenced by the new maps in version 4 as well as increased
number of points of interest.
We have just added over 2 million points of interest on top of the
13 million points in the U.S. already included with your product.
This is 10 times the number of points contained on a Trekker system
or on commercial GPS products. We have points in 50 categories,
knowing that blind people want location information for more than
just travel categories like restaurants and hotels.
There are now 4 POI zip files on the Sendero download page
including the collective User zip file. Install these and see what
is new in your area. As we indicate, some may be duplicates since
we are drawing from multiple databases but my theory is that I
would rather have a duplicate if it means I will have unique points as well.
In order to decide if you want a particular POI file in your folder
or not, you can learn which file a POI is from by pressing the
detailed POI command and then looking at the letters at the end of
the POI details. Individual user points will have a person's
initials. Other POIs will have the corresponding filename in the details.
We were happy to greatly increase the data content for Europe in
version 4 and we are working to increase the POI content even more.
The Sendero price list and shopping cart indicates which countries
are currently available. Other countries in Europe can be added as
there is demand.
As some famous person has most certainly said, "information is power."
