Interesting, Steve. Where do they pass through the middle of buildings?
Interested!
Yes, I agree, some are still difficult to find and aren't where you expect
them to be and I go along with you, Steve, that here in the UK a Post Code
system would be wonderful! I think my seeing friends, using a GPS, are able
to do this.

Subject: [gps-talkusers] Re: cannot find street using the address lookup
feature
This problem has been highlighted several times. It arises because postal
addresses and administrative areas do not always coincide. Telemap seem to
use administrative areas more than postal addresses and expect the user to
know extra information. This is why most systems use ZIP codes in the US
and Postcodes in the UK.
The definition of a postal address is a set of instruction enabling a
postman to deliver a package to a letterbox. This being the case the
instructions are also adequate for delivering a person to a front door or
gate.
Until we can use ZIP/Post codes we are not going to be able to find all
addresses easily without a knowledge of administrative boundaries. This
can be particularly difficult since some admin boundaries pass down the
centre of streets and in some cases actually pass through the middle of
buildings.
