I believe the manual says data is safe, even if the battery goes flat.

My BrailleNote's battery appears to be worn out; it will not take a
charge. According to Humanware technicians at the NFB Convention, the
battery charger is in good shape. I am wondering about the integrity of
my files and programs that are stored internally -- including the GPS
program. I will check with Humanware, but can anyone tell me whether a
fully discharged battery that will not recharge puts me in danger of
losing internally stored material?
Thanks for any help anyone can give.
Terrie
