[gps-talkusers] Re: Voice Sense or PK

I wouldn't want to give up the braille display on the PK. I would imagine that adding a braille display would make it at least as big as the PK if not a little more. Then one would have to contend with more cables. It does sound pretty neat though. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Raul A. Gallegos" <raul@xxxxxxxxxxx>

With the Voice Sense, you gain even more portability since it's even smaller than the PK. It has a radio, a headphone, and mic jack so you can connect external mics to it if you don't want to use its built-in one. Also, With 1 sd and 1 cf card slot, you can add as much memory as you want in addition to its already included 1 gb of internal flash disk storage. The cf card slot will accept an ethernet cf card as well as a modem card if you want to use that. You can easily stream audio from the Voice Sense, and you can download books from Web Braille directly into the word processor. It does not have printing capabilities either, however since it's so easy to transfer files to a pc, it's not that big of a deal unless you don't have a pc of course. GPS on it is based on Sendero gps, however the user interface is slightly different. I would guess that about 90% of the commands are the same, however at the moment we do have an advantage that weuse real dialog boxes for many of the searching functions. This is by no means a slam against Sendero GPS on the PK, but something to point out if performing searches can be confusing. Also, in addition to all the hot key commands, every program has its own windows-style menu system, so if you don't know the hot keys to do a certain task, you can use the menus of each program like you can in Windows.

Hope this helps.

You also lose:
printing and embossing
playlisting
Eloquence speech (which is slow on the mpower anyway
sd, host usb, infrared, dial-up modem, serial port, and pcmcia slot
option of 32 braille cells
microphone jack (you only have the built-in one
audio streaming (maybe
option of a qwerty keyboard on the unit (you can still attach an external one
more that I am forgetting

You gain:
extreme portability
not too much else, but that is one very large plus

Have a great day,
Alex

Kim,

The main selling point for the PK is portability. The PK does
have some
differences because it doesn't have the same memory, memory card,
or USB
port functionality. It has a USB port, but it is a lient port.
It only has
capability for compact-flash. And, the Keysoft software for the
PK doesn't
have some of the features that you get with the larger and more
powerful
Voice/Braille notes. I can't think of everything, but one thing
is no FM
radio, for whatever that's worth. You still have a voice
recorder, media
player, word processor, database manager, scientific calculator,
etc.

I find that the loss of those functions to me isn't a big deal
because of
the lighter weight of the PK.

Subject: [gps-talkusers] Braillenote M-Power or PK

Hi- All recommendations quite welcomed. Right now I use a
braillenote 32QT
M-Power with my sendero GPS software, but lately I've been
contemplating
switching to a braillenote PK because of its size. So I would be
quite
appreciative with anyone's true evaluation of both, why I should
select one
over the other: other than just its size. If I gave up using my
m-power is
there anything I would be gaining with the PK, or lacking with
the PK.
Actually the only thing I don't particular care for with the
M-Power is its
weight. Thanks in advance to all comments.
