[gps-talkusers] Re: Braillenote M-Power or PK

For me, the small size of the PK trumps all other features. With a 32GB card, I never notice any memory issues. It is certainly easy to pop the CF card in my PC if I want to print. Some people even claim that reading with 18 cells versus 32 is more efficient although that doesn't make sense to me. Unless you are reading copius amounts of Braille, the 18 cells should be fine.

The PK can claim to be a PDA. An mPower is really the same size as a laptop.

Hi Kim,

As with George, I, too, had a PK but just recently sold it because I
purchased the Voice Sense and 20 cell Sync Braille. Although, in my case, I
do have a BT32 mPower as well.

I really did like my PK, kind of miss it from time to time now in fact. But,
really, I have no regrets about selling it, although I was quite happy with
it for well over three years.

Now, if you just want the PK for the Sendero GPS, I think you will be just
fine, as the PK is quite wonderful for that purpose. However, if you want
your note taker to do more than that, depending on exactly what you want it
to do, then you might want to either stick with the QT mPower, or perhaps
purchase that Voice Sense and Sync Braille.

When my computer stopped working a couple of months ago and I had to use
just my note takers until I could purchase another one, I realized I would
be better off overall with my Voice Sense and mPower. For, I had originally
tried to sell the mPower instead of the PK, primarily because I liked the
smaller size of the PK, but it is just as well that transaction didn't work
out in the end.

In addition to the GPS, I like having quite a bit of info in the note taker
itself, rather than having to put it on CF cards. And, with the PK, there
just wasn't enough memory for me to do that. Also, if I were to download too
much email at a time, then the PK would often do a hard reset and put
everything back to factory defaults, including erasing all my info off the
flash disk. Or, on a few occasions, even worse, the flash disk would become
unavailable, and there was quite a process to get it restored once again.
Also, still on the email topic, and I think some folks have mentioned this
when composing documents as well, but the PK would often lock up, and I
would have to move the joystick and NAV keys around to get it so I could
finish composing my message, and this would happen in pretty much every
message I would try to compose. Oh, seeing as Don said he wasn't sure, I can
confirm that the PK does not have streaming audio.

Subject: [gps-talkusers] Braillenote M-Power or PK

Hi- All recommendations quite welcomed. Right now I use a braillenote 32QT
M-Power with my sendero GPS software, but lately I've been contemplating
switching to a braillenote PK because of its size. So I would be quite
appreciative with anyone's true evaluation of both, why I should select one
over the other: other than just its size. If I gave up using my m-power is
there anything I would be gaining with the PK, or lacking with the PK.
Actually the only thing I don't particular care for with the M-Power is its
weight. Thanks in advance to all comments.
