Hi Mike,
Can you comment on the subject of zip code matching in version 4? I agree
that this would be a tremendous feature benefit since I've seen StreetTalk
and other GPS systems handle address lookups with little or no user
intervention even for long streets spanning multiple zip codes. I could
imagine a situation where an ambiguous street number would result in Sendero
GPS 4 presenting the user with either a short list of matching streets with
different zip codes or a list of cross streets if no match is made. Further
expounding on a possible UI implementation, it could be that the user is
always prompted for a zip code following the street number prompt. In most
cases, the user would press Enter to bypass this optional parameter in order
to let the program search the map data for the likeliest match and present a
list from which to set as destination virtual or POI. Otherwise, the user
could specify a 5-digit zip code if they have it which could speed up the
address lookup.

Robert,
What I was actually thinking was to have the system match an intersection
by the user typing the street name in and then the cross street or the
address number, and based upon that information it will select the only
option or present you a list of cross streets or address with the zip code
information but by having the system match the field without the zip code
this will lessen the number of zip codes one will have to scroll through.
I think the trouble with only searching by zip code is that the zip code
may cover a pretty big area and where exactly where will you end up in
that big area?

Hello,
I am not in favor of removing the zip code part of looking up an address.
In fact, I am in favor of being able to look up addresses by zip code
only. You can do this with Map Quest, and I think it would be great to
do this with the GPS as well.
One of the problems you have with not using a zip code to look up an
address, is that if a program is looking for that street by the cross
street, it could potentionally find the street you are looking on clear
across the city.
Take for instance, the street I live on. It goes across the entire San
Fernando Valley, in Los Angeles. This street goes across approximately
40 miles of the Valley, but never comes out to a major street.
If you do not have a zip code, it could give you the wrong area for where
you are wanting to be.
So, as I said, I hope that the zip code is not taken out.
Thanks,
Robert Stigile

yes, if possible, that would be very nice. The whole zip code
thing can drive you crazy, especially that you have to start over if you
mess up. It would be better if you could back up a prompt and just
correct the zip code instead of doing the whole process over.

This is a possible suggestion for the way the address lookup
works. I am not
sure how hard would it be to implement or if it is possible.
But, what I was
thinking was when the GPS ask for the street name that the user
is only
required to type in the core name and won't have to pick the
zip code and
when the next field ask for the cross street or address number
then the
system can match the address or the interesection which will
eliminate, or
narrow the list of possible intersections or address that the
user will have
to scroll through. This will be more efficient compared to the
current
method of having to know the zip code information and the exact
name of the
street name.
