[dokuwiki] Problem installing dokuwiki-2006-03-09b.tgz

I have Suse 10.0 running Xampp with virtual hosts. I have followed the
instrctions of http://wiki.splitbrain.org/wiki%3AInstall.
I get the following error message:
Fatal error: session_start(): Failed to initialize storage module:
user (path: /tmp) in /opt/lampp/htdocs/sqlhacks.com/inc/init.php on
line 59
Any suggestion fro what I should look for?
