I've been having a similar issue that kept me from being able to use the
footnote feature.
I need to be able to enter the footnote once and then to repeatedly refer to
that same footnote. This is what you do when citing the same source multiple
times.
I'm curious, where does this 1) notation come from? I'm not familiar with it,
except in outlines or lists. In the scientific literature, we'll do footnotes
as [JSMITH2], etc. A good compromize might be [1], [2], etc.
