[dokuwiki] Mobile Users and DokuWiki

I recently got a WindowsMobile5 PDA (320x240 display) and have been
interested to see the browser implementations. So far I've significantly
used both IE and Opera browsers. Both appear to have weaknesses in dealing
with the layouts I use in DokuWiki. My goal is simply to have a site that is
usable via PDA browsers, without compromising its usefulness via traditional
workstations. (My main wiki is at http://cobs.rollerorgans.com/, if anyone
wishes to see it.)
For instance, I make heavy use of the very handy "folded" plugin:
In Opera "Desktop" view, it works fine.
In Opera "Fit To Screen" and "Single Column" views, the areas are always
shown.
In _all_ IE views, the areas are always hidden. (This is bad for me!)
Or, consider the "sidebar" template.
In its "Default" view, IE can often adjust the sidebar width and display
a reasonable screen.
Opera, in its "Fit To Screen" view, doesn't do as well, placing the bulk
of the bage _below_ the sidebar.
In their "Single Column" views, both browsers keep the sidebar at the
top, so that I'm incessantly scrolling down to view the pages. Ugh!
Now ... I am no expert on designing web for PDAs. However, I do have some
experience in PHP and CSS. Before I start hacking my way around, I need to
ask: "Has anyone tread this path before?" With any success? Any advice,
including suggestions on what approach might be best?
Thanks,
Todd Augsburger
