[dokuwiki] "unsaved changes will be lost" prompt not working?!?!

I can't quite believe this is happening, so I haven't filed a bug report yet...
1. Edit a page (any page)
2. Make a change, don't save or preview
3. Click the syntax link on the edit page
4. A prompt appears "unsaved changes will be lost, really continue?"
Here's the problem: no matter what I click ("OK" or "Cancel") my
changes are discarded and I proceed to the syntax page.
l'm running dokuwiki 20060309 under apache2. The browser is IE6.
dokuwiki is configured without user authentication.
