[dokuwiki] dokuwiki always tries to log me in

Hello everyone,
I have been using Dokuwiki successfully on several systems now, but now
that I want to use it on my personal shared webspace, I am facing a
strange problem: After a fresh installation using the install.php script
and enabling acl, dokuwiki always tries to log me in, no matter what I
do! If initially I request the front page, I will get the (translated)
message that the username and or password is wrong, and then the page
itself. This message will stay when I change to any other wiki page.
Even stranger, when I log in and then log out, dokuwiki will display the
log-in screen, which I will ignore by clicking on the wiki logo -- and,
woooooosh, I am logged in again!
I checked this with Firefox and Konqueror, and also on a different
machine -- same result.
The dokuwiki installation was the latest available (2006-11-06), and as
I have said, it wasn't my first one. The only difference was that this
time I did not manually set any permissions. Usually I set up dokuwiki
on my own computers or on a web server to which I have root access. So I
fine-tune all permissions. This time, as I said, it's on a shared host,
so I didn't do anything with that.
Does anyone have an idea?
Best regards,
Niklas Volbers.
