FreeLists / dokuwiki / [dokuwiki] dokuwiki looks crazy

hello list,

i have a problem with installing dokuwiki.
after download and extracting dokuwiki-2005-09-22.tgz i changed the
permissions of the files to right user.
and now the webinterface looks harrowing and i cant use it
please take a look:

my system is:
   - debian sarge, with vanilla 2.6.15
   - apache2 2.0.54-5 (from deb)
   - php 4.4.1 as fast-cgi
   - php.ini:
       open_basedir = /var/www/admin/web
       doc_root = /var/www/admin/web
       disable_functions = passthru, proc_open, shell_exec, system
       register_globals = off
       magic_quotes_gpc = on
       error_reporting = E_ALL | E_ALL
       display_errors = on
       memory_limit = 24M


any ideas whats is wrong?
