A standard space in most fonts is a quarter of an em, so use shift-tab to put
in a fixed
space of 250/1000 of an em (in many cases 200/1000 would look better) and make
sure it
is non-breaking. That would be traditional usage between initials, e.g. after
the full
stops in "J. S. Bach".
