I use exactly the same idea: my backup drive is a 320Gb external
Toshiba on the PC/USB but with its own PSU. The drive has 3
partitions: 2 are NTFS for the PC and laptop backups (Using
Acronis TruImage) and the 3rd is FAT32 for the zipped RISC OS
backups. The problem is that everything is so slow!

The UNIpod USB can supply a maximum of 0.5A, a limitation of the
podule bus I believe, which is probably too little for the hard
drive you have your eye on. In any case you presumably are
hoping to get the drive to work with MassFS. Mine doesn't :-(

Yes, that would be splendid, but don't forget that RISC OS USB is
v1.1, not the 2.0 of the drive. Anyway, how are you going to do
the re-format?

They won't be able to tell you unless it is a drive they happen
to have used.
