I've tried your port of GhostScript.
I unzipped and used it in place of the existing 7.30 version I had
been using successfully with Acorn's PostScript Level 2 driver and
!Print2PDF to make PDF files.
Unfortunately I found the newer version is not as successful:
Attempting to convert a 13 page Impression document produced only the
PDF script preamble (70bytes).
The document makes extensive use of the 'Wessex' and 'Revue' fonts,
which are converted to bitmap by the PS printer. It is printed at 50%
scale, giving 4 pages to an A4 page. (Award cards for our photgraphic
club.)
Reducing the demand to just 1 page produced a .pdf file, but the
bitmap reproduction of the fonts was poor.
An example of the 'Paladin' font (Palatino) was converted by GS 8.5 to
Homerton(Helvetica); to Trinity by GS 7.30
Returning to GS 7.30 the .pdf file gave (to my eyes) an excellent
representation of the Impression document.
The GS 8.50 pdf file was 31K
The GS 7.30 pdf file was 43K
reflecting the drop in resolution with GS 8.50
I take the liberty of attaching the two pdf files.
It's possibly something I'm doing wrong?
Regards
Roger
