Hi All,
Last night during a drizzling rain I noticed the outside motion activated light
had come on. When I looked out I saw a Barred Owl sitting on one of our
bluebird nest boxes. It then flew down to the grass near the bird feeders and
appeared to be eating something. Its prey was too small to be a rodent. I
believe it was a nightcrawler. Every few seconds the bird, with wings open,
would hop a couple of feet and then eat another nightcrawler. It did this for
about 5 minutes then it left the area. In spite of the rain and the darkness I
got a couple of photos. They can be seen at
http://www.pbase.com/mayhorn/barred_owl_1 .
