[Bristol-Birds] Re: Selasphorus Hummingbird, Elizabethton, TN

I wanted to provide an update on the status of a second hummingbird
present in Carter County.
I got an e-mail at 4:45 p.m. from the woman in Valley Forge community
of Carter County who had been hosting a Selasphorus hummingbird at her
feeders since at least Nov. 13.
Her bird is still coming to her feeders as of today. So, that is two
hummingbirds that I know of in the Elizabethton area.

Subject: [Bristol-Birds] Selasphorus Hummingbird, Elizabethton, TN
I observed a Selasphorus species of hummingbird at a residence in
Warrior Estates off Big Springs Road off Gap Creek Road near
Elizabethton, Carter Co., TN, today, Dec. 7, at 11:30 a.m. I waited
with a photographer — Eveleigh Hatfield — from the Elizabethton Star
newspaper for about 20 minutes before the bird made an appearance.
The hummingbird's hosts — Betty and James Murray — notified me about
the hummingbird on Wednesday, Dec. 6. I waited from 4:30-5:20 p.m.
yesterday to get a look at the bird, but it didn't show.
Betty called me again this morning to tell me the bird had fed about
half a dozen times this morning.
She first noticed the bird around Thanksgiving.
I have several photos of the bird that I will post later to the
Herndon Bird Club's yahoo site.
This is the second wintering hummer report I have received this
season. A resident of the Valley Forge community in Carter County near
Elizabethton had what she described as a Selasphorus species visiting
on Nov. 13. I have not observed that bird, and my last e-mail from the
host said that the hummingbird was still present around Thanksgiving,
but the family had left for a trip to Florida and that bird's current
status is unclear.
