[Bristol-Birds] New Yard/Pond Duck, Hampton, TN

Before leaving for work this morning (Dec. 14), I noticed an American
Black Duck mingling with the Mallards in residence at the fish pond at
my home in Hampton, Carter Co.,TN. The ducks were all on the bank
around the pond, and the Black Duck remained in wary confusion when the
Mallards ran toward me for their morning helping of corn. I am hopeful
he will linger for a few days.
The Black Duck joins a growing list of waterfowl that has stopped at
the pond, including Canada Geese, Mallard, Blue-winged Teal, Hooded
Merganser and Wood Duck.
At ponds located no more than a quarter-mile down the road on Simerly
Creek Road I have also seen Bufflehead and Pied-billed Grebe.
