Area Birders,
This morning (12/31/03) three members of the Buchanan County Bird Club
(David Raines, Todd Perkins and myself, Roger Mayhorn) birded a reclaimed
strip site near the Grundy airport in Buchanan County. In an excellent
habitat of thickets and Sumac 24 species were found. The most notable were 3
WINTER WRENS, 3 PILEATED WOODPECKERS, 6 CEDAR WAXWINGS and 1 RED-SHOULDERED
HAWK.
The most numerous species was the 60+ Robins feeding on Autumn Olive
berries. Next in numbers were the 48 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, who along with
several EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were feeding on Sumac berries.
