Area Birders
This morning (12/23/03) Johnnie Ratliff, a member of the Buchanan County
Bird Club, called me to say that a neighbor had brought him an immature
injured Cooper's Hawk. The hawk had caught a pigeon, which it was still
holding when found. Evidently the bird had flown into a wire or tree branch
just after making the catch. The hawk could only lie on its back. It could
move its head and legs but seemed unable to use its wings.
I contacted the local warden, who picked up the injured bird for transport
to the vet. I doubt that the bird will recover.
