Birding around Boone & South Holston lakes this morning I noted
the following:
Sandhill Crane - 1 in a small corn field in Boones Creek on Picken's
Bridge Rd.
Common Merganser - 1 female on Boone Lake.
Red-br. Merganser - 1 female on S. Holston L. at Musick's.
Hooded Merganser - 244 at Middlebrook Lake in Bristol.
Obviously, the first two of this trio are the hardest to find in this area.
Also saw the other "regular" wintering water-birds at these sites,
including 4 Eared Grebes at Musick's.
