[Bristol-Birds] : Red-bellied Woodpecker

Birders:
Yesterday (3 Dec. 02) around Noon I had a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER
at my feeder.
extremely good find!
Here is the Status of the Red-Bellied Woodpecker in Shady Valley:
Status: Occasional fall, spring and winter resident. Rare summer. Spring:
six records for
Apr and May: (1) 30 May 1976 breeding bird survey at 2800 ft. (854 m).
Summer: only
record 5-13 Jul 1996 at Wright Forest Natural Area on Sluder Rd. (Greg
Harris). Fall: all
but one record for Nov: (1) 15 Sep 1998 Orchard Bog (Shumate).
Winter: No Dec
records. Five records for Jan and Feb. Remarks: First valley record:

(Todd Eastin). Neither Ganier and Tyler (1934), the U.S. Natl. Mus. party
(1937), nor
Dubke (1961-1964) reported this species. Birds have appeared sporadically
at
feeders
since (1) 20 Nov 1990 (L. Shumate) and most are by the Shumates in the
vicinity of their
homes. Max: (2) 12 Feb 1996 (Shumate, S. Shumate); (2) 27 Apr 1997 (J.L.
Shumate, S.
Shumate).
