On a recent school bus trip to St. Louis MO I counted/observed th following
birds:

11-17 Driving along I64: 54 red-tailed hawks, 1 kingfisher, 10 acrobatic flocks
of mixed blackbirds with each flock numbering 1000+ birds. Near Okawville IL
one of the red-tails swooped down and took something right beside the bus
driver's side window (I was driving). Sweet experience.

11-18 Near Edwardsville IL: 11 Canada geese flying in a wedge, 2 Osprey over
ponds beside I55, 100+ ringbill gulls over same ponds, 1 kestrel hovering over
roadside field.

11-18 St. Louis Gateway Arch area: 1 female hairy woodpecker, numerous juncos,
robins, bluejays

11-18 St. Louis Galleria Mall: 1 red-tail hawk hunting from atop Macy's dept
store. Numerous nervous pigeons, 1 of which had impacted the window of Macy's
and lay stunned on the sidewalk.

11-19: 6 red-tailed hawks, one of which was a roadkill, one was soaring near
the St. Louis science center. Three of the hawks were kettling near Horseshoe
Lake State Park in Illinois.

11-20 I64 east from St. Louis -- Lexington KY: 49 red-tailed hawks, 16 turkey
vultures, 3 kestrels
