Folks,
The past few days have produced some interesting birds in my yard here in Elk
Garden. Beginning on Thursday fairly large (100 - 500+) mixed flocks of
Blackbirds have descended to feed. These flocks have been comprised mostly of
raucous squeeling Red-Winged Blackbirds, Common Grackels, and European
Starlings, and today included six Rusty Blackbirds (4 female and 2 male). Also
had first ever Fox Sparrow Friday and Saturday as well as a rare visit (only
seen once or twice/year) visit from a House Sparrow. White-Crowned and
White-Throated Sparrows are visiting for as well. A large female Sharp-Shinned
or Cooper's Hawk swooped in yesterday morning and snagged a chipmonk from our
water feature. These are in addition to our usual yard birds inclusive of House
Finches, Goldfinches, Crows, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Tufted Titmice,
White-Breasted Nuthatches, Song Sparrows, Carolina Chickadees, Carolina Wrens,
etc.
Enjoy the birds....
