[Bristol-Birds] Success! 'Miss Rusty' banded, Elizabethton, TN

Bob and Martha Sargent with the Hummer Bird Study Group arrived at the
home of Gary and Brenda Wallace in Elizabethton, Stoney Creek, Carter
Co., TN, about 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9. In very little time, Bob
managed to trap and bag the visiting hummingbird. The Wallaces and
Bryan Stevens, Hampton, TN, got to observe the banding process.
The verdict? An adult female Rufous Hummingbird that Bob is "90 percent
sure" is the same bird that has been visiting the Wallace home for the
past four autumns/early winters.
The bird, named "Miss Rusty" by Brenda Wallace, first came to the
notice of the Wallaces on Oct. 1 this year. The bird's first couple of
weeks at the Wallaces coincided with lingering Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds, which apparently delighted in chasing "Miss Rusty" away
from the feeders. Now, however, she has her feeders all to herself.
And don't let anyone tell you differently...Bob and Martha are a great
team. It's amazing watching them in action.
Bryan Stevens,
Hampton, TN
