Subject: Rural Retreat Lake birding
Tuesday, Nov 9th, I birded at Rural Retreat Lake and surrounding
areas of Wythe Co. VA. At Rural Retreat Lake were 25-30 Pied-billed
Grebes, 75-80 Amr. Coots, 5 Black Ducks, 3 Wood Ducks, 2 Ring-Neck
Ducks and 1 Canada Goose. Also seen were 5 White-crowned Sparrows,
2 Yellow-rumped Warblers and lots of Robins. In the plowed fields
just west of the lake road were 12 to 15 Am. Pipits. South of the
lake area on Fairview Church Road (#691) on a good sized farm pond
were 2 Snow Geese (Blue Phase). With these sightings it seems to
say that birds are moving in so get out to see what can be found.
