Tess Cumbie, Buladean, N.C.; Gilbert Derouen and Reece Jamerson, Johnson 
City; and Bryan Stevens, Hampton, were joined for a birding outing at Austin 
Springs and Boone Dam by Ron Tinker, Unicoi, and Brian and Tinker Rovira, Reno, 
Nev.
At the parking lot near the headquarters at Winged Deer Park, Johnson City, 
they observed an immature Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.

At Austin Springs, the group observed a Loggerhead Shrike, Palm Warbler and 
Wilson's Snipe.

At the Boone Dam overlook, they enjoyed good looks at Pileated Woodpecker, 
Northern Flicker, Downy Woodpecker and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. 

From the overlook, they observed 30+ Common Loons, a male/female pair of 
Red-breasted Mergansers and 8 Double-crested Cormorants. There was a raft of 
about 
a half dozen ducks that were too far away to be identified.
