Area Birders,
This morning while my wife was preparing for the upcoming big meal, I did
the Thanksgiving Window Watch count. Within an hour I had 19 species that
came to our feeders within the 15 foot circle. The biggest surprise were the
2 PINE SISKINS that came in with the GOLDFINCHES. This was a first for this
season. I had siskins winter before last but none last winter. Maybe this
means there will be other unusual species showing up at feeders this winter,
like Evening Grosbeaks or Tree Sparrows. I also had 5 PURPLE FINCHES, 4
females and 1 male.
A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER came in to investigate the activity around the
feeder, as did an EASTERN BLUEBIRD. 4 other Bluebirds were nearby, but they
were outside the circle. A CAROLINA WREN made trips to the peanut butter in
the suet feeder, along with 2 WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, a DOWNY and a
RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER. A HOUSE SPARROW dropped in and ate sunflower seeds
with a NORTHERN CARDINAL and 2 CAROLINA CHICKADEES.
Enjoy the birds,
Roger Mayhorn
