Musick's Campground
South Holston Lake
Sullivan County, TN

As already reported to this list a Red-necked Grebe was identified at Musick's
Campground this afternoon (16 NOV 02). Not yet mentioned were the two Northern
Harriers, present at the arrival of Wallace Coffey, Don Holt and myself,
soaring above Egret Island (TN) to the left of the point. One was obviously an
adult male and they both displayed the diagnostic white rump patch. Dwayne
Martin of Hickory, NC arrived after the Harriers had passed but just in time to
view the newly sighted Red-necked Grebe and he did not rejoin us for the return
trip. In addition to these fine sightings, on our return trip with Rick Knight
we met Howard Langridge and Reece Jamerson, to find four Horned Grebes and four
Eared Grebes all in Tennessee. The Red-necked Grebe was headed into VA at this
time and crossed the state line before our departure. One Common Loon, Mallards
and six Pied-billed Grebes were also recorded.

Nicewonder Pond
Washington County, VA

Few other water birds found around today despite the many efforts of our driver
Wallace Coffey, however a significant identification was made of a
Black-crowned Night Heron spotted by Don Holt at Clear Creek Lake. Wallace then
delivered us to nice group of fifty Ring-necked Ducks, four Gadwalls and a
compliment of Mallards at the Nicewonder pond. Clear Creek and the Nicewonder
pond are located in Washington County, VA.
