Area Birders,
A first of the season female/juvenile male Purple Finch came in to one of the
tube feeders in our yard this afternoon. In 2005 the first one arrived on Nov
8. In 2004 it was Oct 17. The earliest recorded date I have for this area is
September 29, 2001.

Five Ravens were seen in a field here on Compton Mt today. One was heard
yesterday. Also found on our property here yesterday were Swamp, Field, Song,
Chipping, White-crowned and White-throated Sparrows and a Dark-eyed Junco and
an Eastern Towhee. Cedar Waxwings and a Pileated Woodpecker were also in the
area. Yellow-rumped Warblers are still to be found here, but they will soon
move to lower elevations. They never winter here at 2400 feet. Are there
records of them wintering at this elevation and higher in other areas?
