[Bristol-Birds] Oct. 4, 13 warblers & 4 vireos!

The Lee & Lois Herndon Chapter of TOS held the first of its Saturday birds
walk during October at Sycamore Shoals State Park, Elizabethton, TN.
Attending were Reece Jamerson, Tom and J.T. McNeil, Bryan Stevens, Allan
Trently and John Tolejko. A total of 10 warbler species and 3 vireo species
were
observed.
The group enjoyed some great looks at migrating warblers and vireos,
including Philadelphia Vireo and Blackburnian Warbler.
Others: Red-eyed Vireo, Yellow-throated Vireo, Northern Parula, American
Redstart, Black-throated Green Warbler, Cape May Warbler, Chestnut-sided
Warbler,
Magnolia Warbler, Tennessee Warbler, Yellow-throated Warbler and Yellow-rumped
Warbler.
Other birds: Wood Duck, Mallard, Canada Geese, Mourning Dove, Rock Pigeon,
Chimney Swift, Belted Kingfisher, Northern Flicker, Downy Woodpecker,
Red-bellied Woodpecker, American Crow, Blue Jay, Carolina Chickadee, Tufted
Titmouse,
Carolina Wren, American Robin, Gray Catbird, Northern Cardinal, Song Sparrow,
Red-winged Blackbird and American Goldfinch. Also, one Empid species.
After the walk, Bryan Stevens and Reece Jamerson continued birding behind the
old Bemberg plant in Elizabethton, adding two warblers (Bay-breasted and
Palm) as well as a vireo (White-eyed Vireo).
Other birds: Northern Mockingbird, Killdeer, Indigo Bunting, Turkey Vulture,
Eastern Phoebe.
Once home in Hampton, TN, Bryan Stevens added one more warbler species, a
male Common Yellowthroat.
A good day for observing migrants!
