Hello Bristol Birders

This morning (26 OCT 02) around 8:30 am I arrived at Quarry Bog, Shady =
Valley, TN. A heavy fog had settled on the bog and the birds seemed to =
like it. I saw 35 SWAMP SPARROWS and 20 SONG SPARROWS. More than 100 A. =
CROWS flew over in long flock. Near the end of the mowed walkway I =
jumped a GREAT BLUE HERON and a COMMON (WILSON'S) SNIPE. When leaving =
the bog I saw an A. KESTREL fly from a wire toward the bog. Next stop =
was School Yard Springs Preserve (10:30 am), another property of The =
Nature Conservancy. A nice flight of 9 WOOD DUCKS caught me eye as they =
left the area upon my entrance. In the rear pond area of the Nature =
Trail there was alot of activity including an E. TOWHEE, a =
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, 4 CAROLINA CHICKADEES, an A. ROBIN and more SONG =
and SWAMP SPARROWS as well as 6 A. GOLDFINCHES. Leaving Shady Valley and =
ariving at Musick's Campground and the Painter Creek Boat Dock Area =
(12:15 pm), I identified 6 PIED -BILLED GREBES, 2 A. COOTS, 3 GREAT BLUE =
HERONS, 2 MALLARDS, a BELTED KINGFISHER and 42 CANADA GEESE, 1 A. =
KESTREL, BLACK and TURKEY VULTURES, a WINTER WREN, BROWN THRASHER, 3 E. =
BLUEBIRDS, KILLDEER, 2 PALM WARBLERS. Not being able resist the =
temptation I drove over to the wier dam area and saw a HERRING GULL at =
the spillway. Once atop the dam I saw 6 D.C. Cormorants sharing some =
island real estate with 6 RING-BILLED GULLS. The route taken to the wier =
dam was Pemberton Road (1:30 PM) which yielded 2 RED-TAILED HAWKS and a =
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW. Not a bad morning / early afternoon, ending up =
with 37 total species.
