Bristol Birders,
Bob Riggs and I had a good morning of birding Russell County in the
Blackford area. At Stuart's Pond we found Ring-necked Ducks, Killdeer,
Green-winged Teal and Canada Geese. The sparrows were out in good numbers
and I saw my first ever Lincoln's Sparrow. We also spotted several Swamp,
Song, Field, White-throated, and White-crowned Sparrows in the area. At one
point, Bob identified a Sora as it flew into a marshy area but I missed this
bird for my life list. Raptors made a good showing also - we spotted
American Kestrels, Red-tailed Hawks, Turkey Vultures, one Sharp-shinned Hawk
and one Northern Harrier. On the various ponds and waterways we noted two
Gadwall, several Mallards and Wood Ducks, two Double-crested Cormorants, and
at least four Great Blue Herons.
Overall a great morning of birding that was over too soon as I had to drive
back to Grundy to be at work by 1:00 (Mondays I work late).

Good Birding!
