Bristol Birders

This morning's rain dried up and left beautiful weather for birding. =
Don Holt was my leader on todays outing and we were joined later by Rick =
Knight. Don and I had some good sightings around the S. Holston Dam to =
include 11 Great Blue Herons in one area of the dam spillway. We also =
observed some good finds by Don like the Red-eyed Vireo, Common =
Yellowthroat and Palm Warbler near the beaver pond. While signing in at =
Musick's Campground, Rick Knight pulled in behind us. Driving down the =
gravel way we noticed 3 or more Yellow-rumped Warblers in the last stand =
of trees by the Martin houses. Once on the point things really broke =
loose. Rick announced several great spottings in short order including a =
Bald Eagle, six Eared Grebes, two Herring Gulls, six DC Cormorants, a =
Northern Shoveler and the call of an American Pipit. I called Rick's =
attention to a distant white bird on wing that he ID'd as a Forster's =
Tern. Don and I traveled the Pemberton Oak route back to the wier dam =
and added a nice female American Kestrel to our list. Other local birds =
were present in good numbers and our total species count was at 42 when =
I left Don at the wier dam and he continued to bird.

This was my first BBC 13th of the month field trip and certainly one to =
remember!
