Hello Prof. Turner,
I work at Clyde Austin 4-H Center in Greeneville, TN. I maintain
hummingbird feeders there. I have been covered up by hummers all month.
There is a small wetland nearby full of nectar sources, also full of hummers.
I have been wondering how long they would be here, this being my first
season working here and my first season of paying close attention to the
hummers. I have hummers coming inside my classroom while students are
present! I am watching closely for Selasphorus spp. I will report anything
of interest here. So far the ruby-throated hummingbirds are still here in
good numbers (as of Oct. 2).
