[Bristol-Birds] Tennessee Herp Society meeting this week in NE Tenn (Gray museum)

Excitement is high for this week's 12th annual conference of the
Tennessee Herpetological Society which will be held in Northeast
Tennessee.

Academicians, students, resource managers, researchers and 
the general public are welcome to attend all events during the
three-days which begins Thursday (Sep. 27).

The conference is being hosted by East Tennessee State 
University and Virginia Highlands Community College. 

Thursday's keynote speaker will be Dr. James Organ who
will speak at 1:15 p.m. on the subject "Salamanders of
Southwest Virginia."   His Life History of the Pigmy 
Salamander, Desmognathus wrighti, in Virginia, conducted while
a graduate student at the University of Michigan, is a landmark
publication in salamander biology.

You will not only enjoy the conference but be thrilled to attend 
the first event at the massive, new, Natural History Museum of 
Northeast Tennessee which is located at the visitor center, labs 
and research area of the famous Gray Fossil Site.  The $10 million
facility includes 35,000 square feet of exhibits, labs and 
classrooms.


The museum is south of I-26 (take Gray Exit 13) and is along
TN Rt. 75.  This is also the same road that Tri-City Airport is 
located on but you drive thru Gray and south of I-26.

CONFERENCE SCHEDULE:

Registration begins Thurs. at 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. in the
museum foyer.  Cost $25 for professional, $10 students.

Keynote speaker Thurs. 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. museum 
auditorium.

Paper Session I  Thurs.  2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. museum
auditorium.

Board of Directors Thurs. 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. museum auditorium

Banquet  Thurs.  7 p.m. museum auditorium (Chad Lewis
scholarship fund auction).  $12.00 per person.

Posters Fri. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. museum exhibit hall.

Paper Session II Fri. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shady Valley after dark foray Fri. 7:30 p.m. meet in museum
parking lot.

Roan Mountain field trip Sat. 9 a.m. to 12 noon.  meeting
in museum parking lot.
