Mendota Hawk Watch Report for Sunday, September 16, 2007
Note: This report is based on data submitted by Roger Mayhorn, Grundy, VA
Today was good day to be at the tower, for the Broad-winged hawks finally
began arriving in very good numbers. The sky was clear, visibility great, and
the
temperature ranged from 58 F in the morning to a high of 81 F by 4:00 p.m.
The wind was out of the Southeast, 5-10 mph, and then was mostly calm in the
early afternoon, changing to a very slight breeze out of the West after 5:00
p.m.
Observers included Roger Mayhorn (compiler), David Raines, Tom Hunter, Don
Carrier, Mollie McCutchen, Bonnie Atkinson, Ken Turner, Larry McDaniels, Rob
Biller, George Larkins, and Violet Larkins.
Note: The YTD totals include numbers from Monday, September 17, 2007, which
had been reported before this was sent out.

Sharp-shinned hawk: 1 YTD: 3

The Mendota Hawk Watch is held at the Mendota Fire Tower (Elevation 3020),
located on Clinch Mountain at the Washington/Russell Counties line, three miles
