Hi All,
With the help of fellow birder, John Getgood of Floyd County, VA we logged 47
species here on the place yesterday.
The rain had not yet moved in so the yard stream was a busy place. The warblers
noted were
American Redstarts
Bay-breasted Warbler (1st year female)
Black-throated Green Warblers (male and female)
Cape May Warblers (1adult male)
Common Yellowthroat (1st year female)
Hooded Warbler (male)
Palm Warbler
Tennessee Warblers
Worm-eating Warbler
Yellow-throated Warblers
Yellow Warbler
In the stream a Northern Flicker put on a show, which I photographed.
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks showed up in the trees and in the stream. An Eastern
Phoebe and an Eastern Wood Pewee were busy feeding in the walnut trees in the
backyard. Six Wild Turkeys were feeding in the neighbors field and later at the
edge of the field they were making a lot of racket, as they flew up into trees
to get at wild grapes. A first year male Baltimore Oriole visited the yard
stream, as did several Indigo Buntings. There were as many as 8 Scarlet
Tanagers moving through the area, and a few Gray Catbirds were on the move as
well. At least 5 Swainson's Thrushes were occupied with Virginia Creeper
berries in the backyard, and a Wood Thrush could be heard in the nearby trees.
A Cooper's hawk made a fly-by and was later found perched in a maple tree not
far away.
Photos of some of these can be seen at http://www.pbase.com/mayhorn/migration_6
