[Bristol-Birds] Sora in Elizabethton, TN

I had a Sora Rail flush at my feet in some dried-up puddles in the
wasteland adjacent to the linear trail in Elizabethton, Carter Co., TN
near the water treatment facility on the Watauga River. The puddles are
nearly completely dry, but rain overnight probably dampened them
slightly. There is plenty of brushy cover, however, and the rail
quickly dropped back into hiding.
I also had Magnolia Warbler, American Redstart, White-eyed Vireo and
Field Sparrow in the vicinity. Despite the overcast conditions, also
several butterflies, including Variegated Fritillary and Pearl
Crescent.
I was birding that area between 9:45-10:15 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11.
Last evening, at home in Hampton, TN, I had my first flock of migrating
Common Nighthawks over the house. I also observed in Eastern
Wood-Pewee, Blue-headed Vireo, Gray Catbird, Chimney Swifts and
Ruby-throated Hummingbird. I have so far seen very few migrant
warblers, although residents such as Hooded Warblers are still present.
I also heard two to three Wood Thrushes.
Bryan Stevens,
Hampton, TN
